The Memory Notes

During the current pandemic, the memory Notes is still operating, but in a new, socially distanced way.  Members have all received a CD of the Memory Notes’ favourite songs, plus songsheet, and periodically, Rowena and Sylvia record a video for members.  In addition, singing sessions are taking place on Zoom, the videoconferencing platform, as you can see below:

We hope it won’t be too long before we can all meet together in person again.

_06a4550The Memory Notes, Singing for Heart and Soul and Memory is a community of singers who are all affected by dementia: some are living with the condition, others in the group are carers and supporters.

The Memory Notes, led by Talking in Tune’s Musical Director Rowena Whitehead, is about building friendships and confidence and about having fun, all of which is enabled by singing in a supportive, relaxed environment. The group is inclusive, flexible and friendly and is open to people’s many changing needs and circumstances.

Memory Notes singers say:

‘I love singing with everyone. I look forward to Wednesdays’

‘It’s such a happy atmosphere’

We celebrated The Memory Notes’ 5th birthday in style with a Tea-Dance-Sing party at our regular home St Andrews Centre in Histon, on a beautiful early autumn afternoon in September 2019. Current members of the group were joined by friends and family, and we welcomed back some families who have been a part of the group since we began in 2014. With the volunteers and members of Talking In Tune’s committee we danced and sang and shared a very fine afternoon tea together (complete with a splendid cake). Live music from Tom Ling on the fiddle and Martina Schwarz on the piano accordion provided a wonderful backdrop to a truly memorable, enjoyable afternoon.

The Memory Notes has made a short movie, filmed and edited by Toby Peters, which can be seen here: https://youtu.be/V17lRyCH2nU.  We held a glittering premiere for the Memory Notes community, which included the full red carpet treatment for all!  Here are some photos of the event
